About Black Dog Herbal Medicine

Katie Riley botanising

My interest in and passion for plants stems from my early days in the 1960s in Sussex, experiencing wildflowers in the surrounding countryside of the South Downs . My initial training was in agriculture and after years spent on farms I moved to gardening whilst bringing up my young children, then on to environmental education including Forest School. During this time I developed my passion for sharing the knowledge and love of plants that I have with other people. My training with The School of Herbal Medicine in Somerset taught me yet more about the value of plants, and how their intricate workings align with those of our own bodies to provide healing properties. I am now lucky to live on the land in Devon where herbs grow in profusion. I harvest herbs and process them by hand, drying them to make teas or infusing them into tinctures. Because the medicines are made in small batches from freshly gathered herbs, they still retain much of the vitality and potency of the beautiful plants from which they are made. I feel very priveliged to be able to work with these medicines, bringing them together with people looking to re-discover their potential for great health.
